vonage is VoIP provider, you don’t need your computer on for it, while skype is SIP (not VoiP per se) you need your computer on! even if you have a wifi-skype USB phone! if I didn’t need E911 I would only have skype…
I got both…..I also have mindspring.net, voice yahoo.com all are SIP and with a softfone you can use the webcam…

Well, they perform about the same function, but Skype has no 911. Vonage has 911, but it’s different than the traditional 911. Also, you have to pay extra in order to use skype to receive calls. Vonage is also probably about to go out of business. I use Skype for all of my long distance calls, but I still have a traditional land line for local calls and 911. I save a lot of money way.
