Filipinos should now embrace and be “Open Mind” to the newest way mean of communication VOIP, because its cheaper compare to mobile or long distance phone calls like phone cards. Not all VOIP need to use computer and its hassle. Why should i need a PC just to make long distance calls?
OpenTone Communications Philippines VoIP services are cheap, compared to traditional phones, and there are even software available to make free international calls. Unfortunately, these kinds of software only works for PC-to-PC calls. To take full advantage of VoIP, a VoIP phone is recommended.
Though VOIP needs or require a high speed internet to enjoy a high voice quality but for OpenTone they only need at least 128kbps upload and download internet speed or bandwidth.

Sure they are! anything better than phone cards, less expensive and more flexible means of communication are always welcome.
Unfortunately the internet providers in the Philippines are not!
We have sent about 4 Video Phones in the Philippines 2 in the metro area and 2 in the outer province.
data stream was inconsistent specially in the outer provinces. Although the metro cities were a bit better, we still had to request them not to regulate the data flow through the lines. apparently even if they say they provide certain speeds, they don’t provide it to the maximum, unlike here in the US.
either it is a technical challenge or just plain politics, since the big telecom companies also provide their own voIP service, may be they are just prohibiting competition.
once the Philippines have eliminated this data regulation and the internet providers actually provide efficient service, providing VoIP phones and service to Phil. is easy. We got a lot of Video Phones for everybody!!!!

VoIP is fast becoming the long distance calling option of choice by people all around the world. At’s all about cost. Long distance calling via VoIP is much cheaper than using PSTN landline and for sure cheaper than using mobile phones and cells.
True enough, you do require a good high-speed Internet connection for good VoIP connections. But, there are some VoIP services that can accomodate dial-up internet connections for making VoIP calls from a PC based Softphone. CallCentric is one VoIP carrier that provides a free downloadable Softphone that runs from your PC and uses a low-bandwidth codec for compatible use over dial-up connections.

So I’m just a 14 year old Pinoy. What do I know?
Not all Filipinos have blazin’ fast internet connection. They usually go to an internet cafe (no privacy) or connect via dial-up which makes conversations all static-y and stutter-y. Some also access their office’s net connection to do this which is bad on the part of the company they wok for. Not all Pinoys can also afford those phones.
Another point: VOIP needs a computer and a blazin’ fast net connection, right? Why do VOIP when you have your trusty celly in your pocket? Philippine’s is the texting capital of the world and maybe with one little nudge we can be mobile talkers.
